B.I.R.D BinderThis binder contains resources to help your child perform to the best of their ability. Please use these resources at home to reinforce what he/she is learning at school.
Inside your child's binder, you will also find a homework menu which includes a free choice of activities to complete over the course of a month. You and your child will also find a ziplock bag within the binder. this bag will hold your child's weekly reading book. Throughout the school year, your child will bring home books on their independent reading level which, when read nightly, will help to reinforce word solving strategies and reading fluency. These elements of reading are extremely important when comprehending texts. A student/parent promise will be sent home explaining how and when to return these books. Communication FolderThis folder has been added to your child's BIRD binder and is to be kept inside. This folder will act as our communication center. One side of the folder is labeled "KEEP AT HOME" and the other side is labeled "RETURN TO SCHOOL". Notes from home should also be put inside these folders. It is your child's responsibility to hand you their BIRD binder to be checked each night. And it is also their responsibility to hand in their BIRD binder to me to be checked each morning for completed homework and any notes/documents for me. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Flexible SeatingResearch says alternative seating is the way to go! No more traditional tables/desk and chairs. (This is a work in progress as a grant is being filled)
According to research, having alternative seating options for students: - helps students' attention spans which results in higher achievement - makes students more actively engaged in the classroom - gives them an active outlet without disrupting their learning - motivates students to want to come to school - helps those with ADHD & Autism, along with other special needs - helps develop a sense of community among the students, which helps to improve their social skills - helps them to become independent learners Once students have had an opportunity to try each seating option (stools, floor mats, sensory cushions, rocking seats, lap desks, standing tables, stability balls, and regular chairs), they will be able to choose the best seating option for their learning style. This will allow them to do their BEST learning. "When the body is active, the brain is active." |
